Hurray...my favorite thing to do in the fall is to take the boys apple picking. I prefer orchards that aren't too commercialized with other activities, but rather the good old-fashioned hayride out to the field, big apple trees where you need ladders to reach the top apples and just plain old delicious apples!! Well, we have one place where we love to go, but this year decided the 2 hour drive was too long so we went to a smaller orchard 30 minutes away from home. We were really excited and I had been talking it up all morning on the drive over. So needless to say we were all so excited to finally be there. But when we got there we were in for a little surprise. If you look closely at the first picture you'll see a white little sign under the festival sign..."Apple Picking Closed Today." I couldn't believe it!!!! (Yes, I had checked online before we went and there was nothing about it being closed). The parking attendant told us that there was a Hoedown Festival today and that they had all kinds of activities for kids, so we decided to check it out. Even though, it wasn't exactly what I was imagining for my apple picking day, the kids had a great time. There were lots of moon bounces, pony rides and a hayride to go pumpkin picking. The boys each picked out a pumpkin. Thomas found one that was perfectly fat and round, while Christopher picked one that was big and tall. They have already decided what kinds of Jack-of-Lanterns they will become. Christopher's will be scary and Thomas's will be happy! Even though, it wasn't exactly what I imagined, we had a great time!!

Apple Picking...well, maybe not quite
